Privacy notice

Messages and inference

We process the message, agent instructions, conversation context, and reaction settings you submit to return a reaction. These inputs are sent to TypeSafe, the provider of Jev. We do not store or log message bodies, agent instructions, or conversation text in Emote's database or application logs. The browser keeps playground messages while the page is open.

TypeSafe processes inputs under its own customer agreement and data processing terms. Its storage and retention practices are separate from Emote's. We do not promise that the inference provider retains no data. We do not train models on your messages.

Accounts, billing, and usage records

Clerk handles account information, email verification, authentication, and security sessions. Stripe handles subscriptions, payment details, and invoices. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number. Emote stores your account identifier, subscription status, billing identifiers, API-key labels and hashes, and usage balances in Neon Postgres. Full API keys are displayed once and are not stored in that database.

For accounting, rate limits, and safe retries, we retain request identifiers and hashes, the returned reaction, request status, timestamps, duration, model identifiers, and token counts. These records do not contain the text of your messages. Our hosting provider, Vercel, also processes ordinary connection and operational information, such as IP addresses, URLs, browser details, and error logs.

Website analytics and recordings

We use PostHog to understand visits, playground usage, errors, and integration activity. It receives page and referral information, approximate location derived from IP addresses, browser and device information, identifiers stored in your browser, and events such as requesting a reaction or copying integration code. Signed-in visits are associated with an internal account ID, not your email or name.

PostHog also records website interactions so we can understand usability problems. Inputs, conversation text, and generated request code are masked before capture. API-key panels are excluded, sign-in and sign-up pages are excluded, and console logs and network payloads are not recorded. Session recordings are retained for 30 days. Our analytics SDK respects the browser's Do Not Track setting.

Authentication uses necessary cookies. Analytics uses browser cookies and local storage to recognize visits. You can use your browser's tracking and storage controls; blocking necessary authentication storage may prevent sign-in. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

Why we use and share information

We use information to provide and secure Emote, authenticate users, meter usage, process payments, handle support, and improve the product. We share it with the providers described above as needed for those purposes, and where necessary to comply with law, protect rights, or complete a business transfer subject to appropriate protections. These providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Where applicable privacy law requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our contract with you, legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where required. If you integrate Emote into your application, you are responsible for informing your users and establishing a lawful basis for processing their messages.

Retention and your choices

Account, key, and usage records are kept while needed to operate your account, support retries, resolve billing questions, and protect the service. Billing and security records may be retained longer where needed for legal obligations or disputes. Backups may take additional time to expire. We do not currently apply an automatic expiry to account-linked usage records.

You can update your account details, revoke API keys, and cancel a subscription from your dashboard. Contact us to request access, correction, export, or deletion of personal information, or to object to processing. We may verify your identity before acting. Some records may need to be retained for legal or security reasons. Depending on where you live, you may also complain to your local privacy authority.

Children and updates

Emote accounts are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 18. We may update this notice as the service changes. We will publish the updated version here and provide additional notice of material changes where required.
